Undefeated professional boxer tells Eddie Hearn to have exciting world title fight at Celtic Park
Celtic professional boxer Michael Conlan has announced his ambition to one day fight at Celtic Park.
Conlan is the mandatory challenger to Leigh Wood, who currently holds a WBA featherweight title that could upgrade to “super” status if Leo Santa Cruz is stripped of his belt. The pair are expected to face off in the ring next March, but the venue has yet to be decided for the long-awaited bout.
Wood craves it with his idols Nottingham Forest, but Conlan took on twitter tonight to suggest it should take place at the 60,000-seat Paradise, tagging both Eddie Hearn and the club.

No matter where it turns out, Conlan will be keen to reclaim the belt in Belfast after a streak of 16 consecutive unbeaten fights since turning pro in 2017. Wood also has an impressive record of 25 wins in his career as 27 fights.
Conlan isn’t afraid to make his love for Celtic known. He is a passionate supporter of the club.
He told Celtic’s official website in 2019 after a fight in Belfast: “Walking past over 10,000 people in a park where I grew up, where I’ve had a lot of unpaid fights in the past, to “Grace” was amazing. I knew how everyone would react, and then when ‘Let the People Sing’ started, the whole place went crazy.
“It’s very difficult to explain how I felt walking towards this. If I’m honest it was the best sporting experience of my life. Obviously having kids is different because it’s so personal, but in terms of my career, it has been without a doubt the best experience of my life.
“I’ve been a Celtic fan my whole life. The songs that are sung at Celtic Park are close to my heart and the hearts of all Celtic fans. Being able to play them in a boxing atmosphere means a lot to me. You can see how attached people are to these songs and how they affect them emotionally.
While a fight at Celtic Park this time around may seem unlikely, Conlan could take the lead soon and who can say he won’t light up Heaven one day?
Make it happen!
