How to replace operator name in your iPhone status bar with custom text or logos “iOS and iPhone :: Gadget Hacks
There are much better things that can go on your iPhone’s status bar besides an always-on indicator showing which carrier you’re paying money to each month. While it would be great to remove the carrier name from the top of the screen altogether, an even better option is to replace it with something else to better personalize your iPhone.
As you can probably guess, this will require your iPhone to be jailbroken and running Cydia. And thanks to a reliable jailbreak for iOS 11, it’s now possible even on the latest iPhone models. However, this tweak has been around for a long time and has not yet been explicitly updated for iOS 11, but it still works.
The developer, Alex Zielenski, had indicated few years ago that he planned to update it, so now that the iOS 11 jailbreak is out, we could finally get this update. But until then, be aware that your mileage may vary. Although the tweak supports both text and custom logos, we could only get the logos to work on an iOS 11 jailbreak.
Step 1: Install Zeppelin
To get started, open the Cydia app on your iPhone and tap the magnifying glass icon at the bottom right to access its search function. Once on the search page, type “zeppelin” into the search box, then tap on the first result that has a yellow power drill icon on it. You will be taken to Details page for Zeppelin. Press “Install” at the top right to proceed with the installation.
Then press “Confirm” at the top right to complete the installation. The tweak will now download to your device, so sit back and wait for the process to complete. Select “Restart SpringBoard” after you’re done to restart your iPhone and finish installing the tweak.
Step 2: Open Zeppelin and choose a logo
You’re now free to swap your iPhone holder for a custom logo, so open the Settings app, then scroll down and select “Zeppelin” on the main page. Make sure to activate the tweak by setting the “On” toggle to the on position. In addition to theme selection, you also have the option of pressing “Carrier Text” in the upper right corner of the screen to enter custom text to replace the carrier name.
Unfortunately, the custom “Carrier Text” feature on Zeppelin failed to register on the jailbroken iPhone SE and iPhone 8 where we tested the tweak. Either way, it’s always worth testing on your device – the worst that can happen is that your personalized text doesn’t appear.
Moving on to the themes section, Zeppelin offers you a total of 22 custom logos, ranging from “Abstergo” to “Beats by Dre” and even logos for Android and Windows. The best part about the tweak is its ability to let you instantly swap custom logos at will – without needing to restart your device every time you change your logo.
If you ever want to revert to your iPhone’s original carrier name, however, you’ll need to uninstall Zeppelin from your device. This process is not as simple as removing a standard app and involves going into Cydia and removing the tweak from there by selecting “Edit,” then “Uninstall” from the menu prompt. If you need a more in-depth guide on this process, be sure to head to the link below.
An obvious limitation for Zeppelin is its somewhat limited selection of custom logos, which can get overwhelming quickly. Fortunately, you have a ton of custom logos that you can install thanks to a large assortment of logo packs found in Cydia. Again, search for “zeppelin” in Cydia like you did in step one.
There are hundreds of icon packs to choose from, ranging from famous car brands to popular cartoons and sports teams, and the list goes on. With the wide variety of logo packs available, there’s a good chance there is a Zeppelin icon pack that matches your interest. To further refine your search, add your query, such as Pokémon, MLB, etc. next to “zeppelin” to hit your target faster.
If you are a big fan of NFL football, for example, type in “zeppelin nfl”, tap on the search result, install its icon pack, and install the package as shown in the first step. Once installed, the custom icons will automatically appear in Zeppelin’s “Themes” section, so head over to the tweak and browse the new selection of soccer team logos to pick your favorite team.
With the huge selection of Zeppelin logo packs available in Cydia, there will naturally be logo packs that might not work. Unfortunately, there is no real way to test other than installing and verifying in Zeppelin if the icons become available. That said, we recommend that you uninstall any non-working logo packs immediately to save space and protect your phone overall.
