How should Android P treat the status bar on devices without a notch? [Poll]
Android P is rumored to add support for phones with a display notch similar to the Essential Phone and the Asus ZenFone 5. Unfortunately, this means handsets without a notch will suffer due to changes in design made in part to support phones with oddly designed screens. .
Do you think notchless phones should keep Oreo’s status bar styling or should Android P’s design choices be universal across all devices?
Android P Developer Preview 1 was released yesterday, and there are two significant changes to how the status bar looks and works.
First, the clock has been moved to the far left of the screen and away from other status icons, similar to how iOS looks. Second, notifications start immediately after the clock and stop halfway because there is could be a notch on the way. For phones that don’t have a notch, these changes might not make as much design sense.
So, should Android P’s status bar be the same on all devices? Should users be able to customize the appearance from phone settings? Answer to survey below and let us know your thoughts in the comments!
Oh, and if you’re using Android P on your Pixel, you can try out the notch for yourself using this Android Basics tutorial.
