Choose Your Own Tray Icons for Wired or Bluetooth Headphones « Android :: Gadget Hacks

The custom versions of Android that come with Samsung, LG, and HTC phones usually have a feature that shows a little icon in your status bar when you plug in a pair of headphones. It lets you know your headphones are plugged in or connected correctly, and offers reassurance that your music won’t come out of the speaker, but most importantly, it’s just a nice little touch.

But stock Android lacks this feature, so devices without a manufacturer skin, or those running custom ROMs, are missing out. This is why the developer paphonbth created a Xposed Module– to add this “headset plugged in” icon to any device. Best of all, the icon itself is fully customizable with multiple options to choose from, so I’ll show you how to set it up below.

Note: You can also use this if you already have a stock indicator, but then you will have two icons in your status bar.

Requirements

Step 1: Install the headset tray icon

To launch this one, start by heading to the To download section in your Xposed Installer app and search for Headset tray icon. From there, tap on the best match, then swipe down Versions tab, and press the “Download” button next to the most recent entry. Within seconds, the Android installer interface should appear, so tap “Install” when you see this screen.

When this is complete, make sure to activate the module and reboot to finalize the configuration.

Step 2: Choose a headset icon

When you get up, open the Statusbar Headset Icon app which you will now find in your app drawer. From here, you will see two options: “With Microphone” and “Without Microphone”. Use the two drop-down menus here to select a different icon for each headset type, and when you’re done, you’ll be good to go.

What they look like in your status bar

The next time you connect a pair of headphones via cord or Bluetooth, you’ll instantly see the new indicator icon in your status bar (a few of which are pictured below). And just like with skinned versions of Android, the icon will disappear immediately after disconnecting the headphones, so you’ll always know when your headphones are properly plugged in.
