  • IMSA’s GTD Pro class has raced this season with just five regular grid entries; two others are joining the starting grid for Petit Le Mans this weekend.
  • It remains to be seen how many GTD Pro cars will be on the grid next year for the class distinguished by professional driver rosters.
  • IMSA President Jon Doonan is convinced that “there are still specific manufacturers who want a professional rider (associated with a) professional pilot opportunity”.

In a world where GT3 class cars with paid amateur drivers have become the way for manufacturers and teams to generate revenue, will IMSA’s GTD Pro class continue to survive after a season of just five entries? regular on the grid?

The GTD Pro entry list at this weekend’s Motul Petit Le Mans includes seven cars from seven different manufacturers (Chevrolet, Porsche, Lexus, Aston Martin, BMW, Ferrari, Mercedes AMG), which marks the highest level since the 12 Sebring hours. in March. By comparison, the GTD class that includes amateur drivers has 16 cars in Petit’s field.

It remains to be seen how many GTD Pro cars will be on the grid next year for the class distinguished by professional driver rosters.

John Doonan, IMSA President, is optimistic that IMSA is choosing to retain the remnants of the GTLM class with professional drivers behind the wheel of GT3 cars that are closer than ever to high-performance street machines. “There are still specific manufacturers that want a pro rider (combined with) a pro rider opportunity,” he said. “There are obviously teams that want a pro and pro (driver) opportunity.”

The American Le Mans Series GTLM class launched at the inaugural Petit Le Mans in 1998 at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta was an all-professional class and an indicator for Don Panoz’s series in terms of car numbers and fan interest , as it invariably included cars. and teams that have raced at Le Mans as well as state-of-the-art machines. The class survived the merger with Grand-Am from 2014 until it became designated GTD Pro this year and adopted the now universal GT3 car regulations.

But at a time of convergence on the front of hybrid prototypes with the respective GTP and Hypercar classes, the two “sides” of the Atlantic diverge on how to manage the GT category. Le Mans officials have bailed out by limiting GT3 entrants to at least one amateur-status driver next year and dropping its pro class entirely.

Doonan cites interest in the US market by manufacturers in Europe and America as the foundation for IMSA’s GT programs. But how many will continue to ‘double down’ their brand exercise by selling customer GT3 cars to entry level GTD class teams and taking some of that money to then fund factory backed teams with drivers professionals? Will fans even recognize the distinction of GT3 teams with a lineup of all-professional drivers?

Next season will look like this year in GTD Pro, Doonan said. “I think we’re heading towards a similar number of cars next year based on the conversations we’re having,” he said.

Here is the outlook for the GTD Pro 2023 class:

    Chevrolet, Porsche, Aston Martin, Lexus

9 pfaff motorsports, porsche 911 gt3r, gtd pro matt campbell, mathieu jaminet, 14 vassersullivan, lexus rc f, gt3, gtd pro jack hawksworth, ben barnicoat

Porsche is expected to return in 2023 to compete in the IMSA GTD Pro class.

    IMSA

In addition to GM’s Corvette Racing, Porsche, whose partnership with Pfaff Motorsport resulted in this year’s GTD Pro championship, has entered. Aston Martin and Lexus are expected to fund their respective Heart of Racing and Vasser Sullivan Racing entries into GTD Pro. Consider these four in 2023.

    The question marks:

    BMW

25 bmw m team rll, bmw m4 gt3, gtd pro connor de phillippi, john edwards

BMW’s move to the GTP class next season seems to indicate an imminent exit from the GTD Pro class.

    IMSA

As BMW’s RLL team moves to the new GTP class for hybrid prototypes, it’s unclear whether the German manufacturer, which also plans to compete at Le Mans from 2024 with the GTP car, will continue to fund a GT3 Pro team. If BMW wants to continue in the pro class, current competitors from GTD Turner Motorsports or Paul Miller Racing can step in. It all depends on how the annual cost of bringing a car into service – around $3 million – is shared between a manufacturer and a team, who often depend on private investors to buy a car.

    Ferrari

21 af corse, ferrari 488 gt3, gtd simon mann, luis perez companc, nicklas nielsen, toni vilander

Ferrari are not expected to field a GTD Pro entry into IMSA next season.

    IMSA

Where is Ferrari going? Risi Competizione will represent one of the seven manufacturers at Le Petit with a 488 GT3 entered for victory in the GTD Pro and the Michelin Endurance Cup after three previous participations in the long distance events. But team owner Giuseppe Risi has sold his Ferrari dealerships in Houston and his future racing plans are unclear.

AF Corse, which competes in various GT3 classes around the world with Ferraris, intends to field the new 296 GT3 in the Rolex 24 at Daytona next year in GTD and possibly a full IMSA season, but should not align a GTD Pro entry.

    Mercedes-AMG

97 races weathertech, mercedes amg gt3, gtd pro cooper macneil, daniel juncadella, maro engel, jules gounon

Mercedes AMG is a bit of a wild card when it comes to possibly fielding a GTD Pro entry next season.

    IMSA

After bouncing between the two categories with a Porsche 911 GT3 R and a Mercedes AMG this year, WeatherTech Racing will compete at Petit Le Mans in GT3 Pro with the Mercedes AMG and a driver line-up including two platinum-level drivers. David MacNeil, owner of WeatherTech, the title sponsor of IMSA’s first series, is funding the German team Proton Competition, which prepares and presents its Mercedes AMG ars.

Success at Le Petit, where WeatherTech Racing won last year, is seen as a potential opportunity for Proton to persuade the factory to go pro. MacNeil and his son Cooper, who usually drives for the team and is a three-time class winner at Le Petit, will not be at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, likely due to company commitments.

Online professional network LinkedIn has ranked Cred, the fintech unicorn led by Kunal Shal, as the top startup in its annual list of Top 25 Startups for India.

Cred – valued at $6.4 billion – maintained its position on LinkedIn’s Top Startups list, rising from 3 in 2021 to 1 in 2022. As well as gaining popularity for its original ads over the past two years , the report says Cred is setting new benchmarks for employee wellness by providing benefits such as elder care, egg freezing and one-on-one mental wellness support to its employees.

Edtech unicorn upGrad was ranked second, followed by investment platform Groww which took third place in the ranking.

This year’s list also includes new entrants, including fast-trading startup Zepto in fourth place, followed by car-buying platform Spinny in seventh place. Other new entrants include insurtech startup Ditto Insurance, fitness platform Ultrahuman and organic food market Living Food.

“The Indian startup ecosystem is showing great resilience as we continue to see the rise of new startups with 68% of entrants on the list appearing for the first time. These startups are navigating the uncertain macro environment by optimizing their businesses for sustainable growth and taking a more cautious approach to scale their businesses,” said Nirajita Banerjee, Editor-in-Chief of LinkedIn News India.

Bengaluru reaffirmed its status as “Silicon Valley of India” by hosting 13 of the top 25 startups. In fact, from August 1, 2021 to July 31, 2022, 58% of all jobs advertised by these startups on LinkedIn were based in Bangalore.

Banerjee added, “It’s also great to see young professionals embracing India’s startup ecosystem, with 56% of all hires in the top 25 startups under 30 and 17% under 25 in India. time of joining. This list is a great resource for job seekers excited to innovate, solve big problems, and grow their skills at these startups.

LinkedIn looked at data from the platform from July 2021 to June 2022 on four pillars to create this year’s ranking: employee growth, job seeker interest, member engagement with the company and its employees, and the success with which these startups have attracted talent from its LinkedIn Top Companies list.

Dota 2’s competitive meta can change in the blink of an eye. Professional players are constantly coming up with new ideas and schematics, leading to an ever-growing roster of heroes that seemingly changes day by day.

In this Dota 2 hero tier list, heroes are roughly divided into three tiers to signify their prominence in the professional scene. About 40 heroes are represented, although the balanced nature of Dota 2 means many more heroes are viable.

This isn’t an exhaustive list of good heroes – they’re ranked by their popularity on the pro scene, where execution matters as much as drafting.

The conclusion of the International 11 Regional Qualifiers has given us even more insight into the meta. Patch 7.32 and the ongoing 7.32b update have completely changed the writing priorities of pro teams. The game has since slowed down, with a worse experience curve and passive gold, unlocking heroes with longer cooldowns that can immediately change the face of a teamfight.

Level one

  • Eternal
  • Enigma

  • prophet of death
  • faceless emptiness

Level 1 heroes appear in almost every draft, whether banished or selected. Their strength can come from their flexibility, allowing teams to easily insert them into lanes however they see fit, or from an irresistible power that no other hero can quite replicate or counter.

batrider

Batrider will always be one of the strongest starters in the game. When the hero also becomes one of the strongest assassins, that’s when we have a balance problem.

The hero received one of his most revolutionary changes, where Sticky Napalm now deals damage. This helps the hero become an even stronger laner than before, especially in a short lane like mid, and packs more punch later in the game. is after several nerfs in 7.32b.

Builds have become almost standardized with Batriders, opting for Boots of Travel in Blink Dagger, Black King Bar, and Aghanim’s Shard – which has become more reliable now that it applies Napalm to all other attacks. Next item choices include Aether Lens, for easier attunement, or Witch Blade, for better damage – though most end up getting both. Octarine Core often completes the build, allowing you to constantly steal and pepper enemies with napalm and right clicks.

Eternal

Dota 2, Immortal, Cosmetic

The biggest change to Undying was a Decay buff that no longer “modifies health on expiration”. This means Undying has effectively healed and enemies taken damage from the spell, and is now much more heinous.

This change alone, despite the nerfs to the hero’s other spells, alone elevates the hero’s status as a possible core. Already known as a lane dominator as a support, Dirge suddenly becomes a viable offlaner who constantly saps enemy carry health.

Otherwise, he’s still pretty much the same hero. It’s still hard to fight in Tombstone unless you have specific counters for it. Flesh Golem is a damage amplification spell that works on Roshan, making it far more valuable than just a normal teamfight spell.

Enigma

Dota 2 Enigma
Credit: Valve

Enigma received a relatively minor change in 7.32, changing his Aghanim’s Shard upgrade from a Black Hole firing to his Malefice enhancement. This, however, changed the hero’s dynamic enough for him to be a lifelong editorial presence.

Demonic Conversion is still a fantastic laning spell that constantly negates ranged creeps, guaranteeing frustration on the side of Enigma’s laning counterpart.

The hero has also become less reliant on his Dark Golem, making him more palatable when playing counters like Rubick or Silencer. The Worlds Consumer can instead focus solely on spamming Malefice and Midnight Pulses in combat, aided by its more versatile Shard upgrade. But forget about his ultimate at your peril – Enigma is still perhaps Dota’s best teamfighting hero, and a Black Hole Refresher can spell the end of any roster.

Marc

The initial 7.32 patch wasn’t kind to Marci, but 7.32b did a lot to remedy the hero in the public eye.

Losing instant initiation and stun on his Dispose hurts, but the hero is arguably stronger than he was before the patch. Instead of being the best side lane support, she’s now more of a lane dominating core, thanks to her sidekick, rampage, and base strength’s many buffs.

Although she struggles to farm, all she really needs is a Black King Bar and a Skull basher – everything else is a luxury. It’s no surprise to see her hearts outdo who have a much higher net worth than her, making her weakness generally moot. She’s perhaps Dota’s most versatile hero now, capable of being played in all five roles – though standard protocol leaves her in position three through five.

prophet of death

Even when Razor and Viper have taken a step back, the ranged offlaner trend continues to thrive.

Death Prophet’s 7.32 patch initially read as a massive nerf, changing his Spirit Siphon from scaling with max HP to fixed damage. But up to around 1,200 health, his new Siphon deals more damage, making him much more terrifying in lane when health is still low. Now almost exclusively played in position three, the Siphon is still a threat to common carriers and supports, preventing any sort of favorable trade for its foes.

Even after a flurry of nerfs in 7.32b, she’s still the same monster. Exorcism is a versatile spell that can be used for fighting, pushing, or Roshan. Silence is still a decent handicap, and Crypt Swarm is a standard nuke. Krobelus is just a safe, well-rounded hero who can take over lanes and games due to his broken numbers – and thus, almost always ban-worthy.

faceless emptiness

Dota 2 Battle Pass 2022 Faceless Void Arcana
Credit: Valve

Faceless Void is the most popular stance in Dota 2, due to its unmatched combination of carry and initiation potential. He’s still not the best laner, but the early points of time dilation help alleviate the issue by giving him slow AOE and damage.

Time Walk even received a buff in 7.32, giving him extra length to jump into fights. Instantly picking up his Shard upgrade, which allows him to reverse time, has become popular in the pro scene. This gives him the chance to walk in and out of fights, hoping opponents’ key spells are baited.

Chronosphere remained mostly unchanged, but Void now deals significantly more damage there thanks to his level 20 talent, which gives him 120 attack speed in the bubble. This virtually guarantees a solo kill on a core whenever it spawns its ultimate later in the game, ensuring comfortable power scaling for Darkterror.

  • ember spirit
  • Summoner
  • blood digger
  • Templar Assassin
  • Terror Blade

Tier two heroes are safe and stable picks that generally don’t warrant bans or instant picks. While not as oppressive as first tier heroes, they can be just as strong in a match that favors their skills.

Of the heroes here, several of them threaten to approach Tier One status.

The zoo strat never really dies, as evidenced by some of the most popular heroes like Face, Chen, and Beastmaster. These three heroes, while perhaps not as oppressive in lane as someone like Marci or Undying, make up for it later in the game with powerful summons.

Face leans more towards an Assassin or Aura build, focusing on items like Wraith Pact or Aghanim’s Scepter depending on fit and farm priority. Beastmaster is still one of the few heroes to buy Helm of the Overlord and almost always has superior vision thanks to Hawk. Finally, Chen is perhaps the easiest to play he’s ever been – just stack powerful Auras of Neutrals for an unstoppable push.

Dota 2 Beastmaster Loading Screen
Credit: Valve

Other heroes in the tier seem to follow the initial assessment – longer cooldowns are less of an issue for heroes, as long as they have a way to change the fight with powerful spells or ultimates.

level three

Dota 2 shadow demon

  • shadow demon
  • slark
  • Enchantress
  • dawnbreaker
  • Tiny
  • Omniknight
  • troll warlord
  • Wood saw
  • Earthquake
  • March
  • Monkey King
  • Defense
  • Ursa

Tier three heroes pop up here and there, but are popular enough to be recognized as powerful additions to a team’s draft. They can be unmanageable corny last picks, fit right in with a player or team’s playstyle, or serve as niche counters for certain popular heroes.

Shadow Fiend becomes one of the strongest laners in the meta, often tasked with going into the vault or mid lane. A small base damage buff to 7.32 is always welcome for a hero who has trouble right-clicking early on. But it was the switch to Shadowraze, which grants him stackable spin speed and movement slowing, that turned Nevermore into a terrifying kill lane – with or without a partner.

Entity’s Ivan “Pure” Moskalenko is probably the best example of an SF safelane, while Xtreme Gaming’s Zhang “Paparazi 灬” Chengjun remains a maestro on the hero in the middle.

Dota 2, Slark announcement
Credit: Valve

Slark is another hero whose fortunes have been transformed because of the new patch. With his Pounce now giving him stacks of Shift Essence instantly, he is now a much more reliable fighter. Pros also abuse his Shard, Depth Shroud, extremely well as a bonus defensive tool that most hard carries don’t have.

GREEN BAY – The Packers have named receivers Christian Watson (hamstring) and Randall Cobb (illness), tight end Marcedes Lewis (groin) and tackle David Bakhtiari (knee) as questionable for Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay.

Receiver Allen Lazard (ankle), defensive lineman Kenny Clark (groin), offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins (knee) and kicker Mason Crosby (ill) have not received game statuses and are expected to play. This will be Crosby’s 244th consecutive game.

Receiver Sammy Watkins (hamstring) was ruled out after not practicing since Wednesday.

Lazard and Lewis returned to practice Friday after sitting out Thursday. Bakhtiari was a limited entrant for the second straight day. Cobb did not practice this week.

With Watkins out and two other questionable receivers, head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters ahead of Friday’s practice that rookie fourth-round pick Romeo Doubs “is probably going to have to take on more of a load this week.”

Doubs has six catches for 64 yards on 60 offensive snaps this season, but said Thursday he was ready to play more of that Sunday if called.

“I would be really comfortable with that,” Doubs said. “I just want to do my best to help the team win this week, so whatever happens, I’m in control of my own destiny and I’m going to make sure I prepare and do my part to the best of my ability.”

The Buccaneers ruled out receiver Chris Godwin (hamstring) and defensive tackle Akiem Hicks (foot), while left tackle Donovan Smith (elbow) and tight end Cade Otton (personnel) are uncertain. Smith did not practice Friday after returning to practice Thursday.

Four Buccaneers have been listed as questionable: running back: Leonard Fournette (hamstring) and receivers Julio Jones (knee) receiver Breshad Perriman (knee) and Russell Gage (hamstring)

Tampa Bay has not released playing status for the following players who are all expected to be available: quarterback Tom Brady (right finger), linebacker Lavante David (rest), cornerback Carlton Davis (hip), receiver Scotty Miller (calf), cornerback Zyon McCollum (hamstring) and center Robert Hainsey (knee).

In the first two years of the pandemic, we’ve seen many airlines either extend elite status altogether or make it easier to earn. We’re seeing less of that this year, even though Southwest just launched a promotion that some members will find valuable.

Southwest A-List easier to win in 2022 (for 2023)

A-List and A-List Preferred are Southwest Rapid Rewards’ elite status tiers, offering benefits like priority boarding, bonus points, and more. These elite levels require the following amount of activity in a calendar year:

  • A-List requires 25 one-way flights or 35,000 tier qualification points
  • A-List Preferred requires 50 one-way flights or 70,000 tier qualification points

With Southwest, you typically earn 6 to 12 times more qualifying points per dollar spent, depending on the fare type you book. Note that this is separate from the Companion Pass, which is Southwest’s amazing perk where you can fly a Companion with you for free.

Either way, Southwest just announced two initiatives that make it easier to earn elite status this year.

A-List and A-List Preferred are easier to win this year

Southwest Reward Flights Count For Status

Southwest counts the rewards segments to A-List and A-List Preferred for about 11 months this year:

  • For reward flights flown between January 1 and September 19, 2022, you will automatically earn qualifying segments, even without registering
  • For award flights flown between September 21 and November 30, 2022, you can earn qualifying segments if you register

Eligible segments will be posted to your Rapid Rewards account within 72 hours of competing for a flight, and those who took award flights on September 20 are out of luck. Obviously, it doesn’t help if you qualify based on Tier Qualifying Points rather than Segments, but for those who go through a lot of Segments with Southwest, this will be invaluable.

It would be great if Southwest made this permanent. We recently saw Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and Delta SkyMiles start counting award flights towards status, so it would be great if this becomes a consistent industry trend.

Southwest offers dual-tier qualifying points

Not only does Southwest count award flights for status, but Southwest also offers dual-tier qualification points toward A-List or A-List Preferred status for paid flights. This promotion only allows you to obtain double level qualification points, not double segments. You must register before booking your flight and travel by November 30, 2022.

If you’ve already booked a trip on Southwest and are looking for status, it might be worth trying to book it again, if the fare hasn’t changed too much. With this offer, you will earn 12 to 24 times the qualifying points per dollar spent, instead of 6 to 12 times the qualifying points per dollar spent.

At the end of the line

Southwest Rapid Rewards has two offers that make it easy to earn A-List or A-List Preferred status. You can earn double qualifying segments on reward flights and double level qualifying points on paid flights. Just be sure to register and follow the rules regarding dates, booking conditions, etc.

Will you benefit from these Southwest Rapid Rewards promotions?

The boxing landscape is arguably as intriguing as it’s ever been.

The past few years have seen heavyweight for the ages epics between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder, they’ve seen Saul “Canelo” Alvarez establish itself as the face of the sport in the eyes of many fans, and they’ve seen frequent displays of technical genius. champions in the lighter weight classes.

There have been upsets, title unifications and drama aplenty – Anthony Joshua’s losses to Andy Ruiz Jr and Oleksandr Usyk are prime examples.

All these fights and results have been taken into account in The IndependentThe own top 10 male boxers, pound for pound, will be updated monthly.

While there’s no exact science to putting together lists like this, a number of factors were considered in coming up with the rankings, including each fighter’s overall record, recent record , its level of activity and the caliber of the opposition.

The Independent’s pound-for-pound ranking

10. Dmitri Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs)

Dmitry Bivol edged out Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez for a stunning win

(Copyright 2022 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.)

Entered our list in May 2022, following his superb victory over Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. The Russian went undefeated and retained the WBA light heavyweight title with this result, which he achieved by fighting on the front foot, choosing his shots wisely and nearly doubling his opponent’s output. Bivol, 31, won by two points on all three judges’ scorecards, although the margins should have been much wider. A clinical display that hugely raises the profile of the Russian and likely sets up a rematch with Canelo down the line. But first, Bivol must overtake undefeated Gilberto Ramirez in November.

9. Shakur Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs)

The undefeated American entered our list following his clinic against Oscar Valdez at the end of April. Stevenson picked up a unanimous decision victory over the Mexican, retaining the WBC and WBO super featherweight titles. At just 25 years old, the best is still ahead of Stevenson, who will surely only climb our rankings.

8. Vasiliy Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs)

Vasiliy Lomachenko edged out Richard Commey in his last fight

(Getty Images)

Was somewhat surprisingly beaten by our former No. 10, Teofimo Lopez, but the 34-year-old bounced back with two straight wins – the latest against Richard Commey – to maintain his status as one of the best boxers in the world . The Ukrainian southpaw (one of two on this list…) beat Jorge Linares in 2018 to become WBA lightweight champion and three-weight title holder, before adding other belts with notable wins over Luke Campbell and Jose Pedraza.

7. Juan Francisco Estrada (43-3, 28 KOs)

The diminutive Mexican is a two-weight world champion, having secured the WBA super flyweight title with his split decision win over Roman Gonzalez in March 2021. The victory saw Estrada, 32, avenge a 2012 loss by “ Chocolatito’, but his narrow nature meant the former rivals had to pull themselves together in March, until Estrada had to pull out due to Covid symptoms. Estrada has since edged out Argi Cortes, and his trilogy bout with “Chocolatito” is set to take place in December. Either way, Estrada’s creative use of angles is one of its most notable attributes, making it a fun watch every time.

6. Tyson Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs)

Tyson Fury after stopping Deontay Wilder again in 2021 heavyweight epic

(Getty Images)

Eclipsed Anthony Joshua as the household name in British boxing. Fury, 34, returned to the sport in 2018 after a three-year absence due to a long struggle with his mental health. Since then, he has established himself as one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, dethroning Deontay Wilder to become WBC champion in the pair’s 2020 rematch, after drawing a controversial draw with the American in of their first meeting, in 2018.

Last October, Fury stopped Wilder for the second straight fight to retain the belt, which he did again in April by knocking out Dillian Whyte with ease after taking out the countryman for most of six rounds. A creative fighter who has shown remarkable resilience and heart in the ring, Fury previously held the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO titles and seems destined to regain them and reign as the undisputed champion in the future. .

5. Errol Spence Jr (28-0, 22 KOs)

Errol Spence Jr leaves AT&T Stadium with another welterweight belt

(Getty Images)

The American hasn’t been the most active fighter in recent years, but he’s slowly built up a nice resume. Spence Jr holds impressive wins over Shawn Porter, Mikey Garcia, Danny Garcia and Carlos Ocampo. The southpaw stopped the latter, while notably finishing Kell Brook on the Briton’s pitch earlier in his career, and a canceled clash with Manny Pacquiao would surely have further strengthened Spence had it materialized.

Last time out, the 32-year-old beat Yordenis Ugas by brutalizing the Cuban’s eye, reclaiming another welterweight belt and increasing our ranking in the process. If he can increase his activity, Spence will likely only continue to climb here, especially if a long-awaited meeting with Terence Crawford materializes and Spence can win…

4. Terence Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs)

The WBO welterweight champion has one of the most impressive resumes in the sport, and he just keeps getting better. Four of the American’s last seven opponents were undefeated before facing him, and all seven were stopped by Crawford – who has a huge number of knockout and TKO wins under his belt. Victories over marquee boxers Kell Brook and Shawn Porter in Crawford’s last two outings have further raised the 34-year-old’s profile, particularly his win over the latter last time out.

3. Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs)

Saul Alvarez after his stoppage win over Caleb Plant last November

(AP)

In the nine years since his loss to Floyd Mayweather, the Mexican has established himself as the face of boxing, with wins over Erislandy Lara, Miguel Cotto, Amir Khan, Gennadiy Golovkin, Daniel Jacobs, Billy Joe Saunders and many others. The efficiency of the 32-year-old’s counter kicks, the finesse of his head movement and the beauty of his body work make him a pleasure to watch.

Detractors will point to Alvarez’s 2018 clenbuterol controversy and the fact that a few of his wins came via controversial scorecards. Fans will give more credit to Canelo’s admirable level of activity and the sheer number of formidable foes he has fought and beaten. His three wins in 2021 – all stoppages – ultimately saw him become boxing’s first undisputed super middleweight champion. A four-weight class titleholder, the Mexican failed to add a second lightweight title to his collection when he was edged out by undefeated Russian Bivol in May 2022.

The result, which surprised a number of fans, marked just the second defeat of Canelo’s professional career and saw him drop from No. 1 on our list to No. 4. He bounced back with a victory decisive on points against his aging rival Golovkin, although this result turned out to be little. at this point and only sees him climbing one spot here. The ambitious Mexican is expected to opt for the rematch with Bivol soon.

2. Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs)

Was the only undisputed cruiserweight champion of the four-belt era before moving up to heavyweight, where he became WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO champion in 2021 by edging out Anthony Joshua with relative ease. The 35-year-old Ukrainian is undefeated and recently beat Joshua on points for a second time to retain his heavyweight titles and move up two spots here. The Olympic gold medalist southpaw is as technical and clumsy as he is at the heavier weight classes, making a possible matchup with Fury an intriguing prospect down the line.

1. Naoya Inoue (23-0, 20 KOs)

Naoya Inoue (left) stopped Nonito Donaire in the pair’s June rematch

(AFP via Getty Images)

One of the lesser-known names on this list for more casual fans, the Japanese has no shortage of prowess which he may lack in profile.

Inoue has the best save percentage of any fighter on this list, which makes him such an exciting fighter to watch – along with his effortless evasion, brutal body attacks, and fearsome exit level. More recently, ‘Monster’ lived up to his moniker once again when he eviscerated Nonito Donaire in a rematch in June after narrowly outplaying the Filipino in his first fight. With this second victory over Donaire, Inoue added the WBC belt to his collection of bantamweight titles, and he also climbed to the top of this list from No. 5.

At 29, the WBA, WBC and IBF titleholder – who also held gold in two other weight classes – still has a lot to do.
